Fueling Hope Through Clinical Research

Mental health challenges, behavioral issues, chronic medical problems, viruses, bacterial infections, autoimmune disorders, allergies—

We all know someone who has been impacted by one or more of these issues. From a common case of childhood strep throat or mono to complex autoimmune and post-infectious conditions, they all have something in common.

These issues are studied, diagnosed, and treated, in isolation. But now, a growing body of evidence is uncovering the truth. They might have more in common than we thought. And the similarities could hold the key to a dramatically different future for people around the world from all walks of life.

Could inflammation in the brain be a missing link?

When a virus, infection, or other trigger causes brain inflammation that doesn’t resolve in a typical timeframe, getting the right diagnosis and treatment can be extremely difficult. The symptoms can be both physical and mental, and can impact the whole body.

We cannot continue to study one diagnosis at a time, one drug at a time. Better diagnosis and treatment of brain inflammation starts with more data. We are building a comprehensive, longitudinal digital health platform, driven by and for patients and researchers.

How You Can Help

Fund Groundbreaking Research

The Brain Inflammation Collaborative is a 501(c)3 organization funded entirely through the generosity of people like you.

We need your support to conduct vital research, reduce the barriers patients face to participating in clinical research, and supporting researchers doing this important work.

Participate in Research as a Healthy Control

A healthy control is a research participant who does not have the condition being studied and is in generally good health.

Comparing data from individuals who have an illness with people who don’t is an important part of the research process, helping researchers achieve actionable results.

Partnering with Advocacy Groups

Advocacy groups are essential partners in our mission. You can support BIC by connecting us with the patients and participants you serve, encouraging symptom tracking through our platform, sharing research opportunities, and helping spread the word about our findings. Your efforts also help us identify research gaps, promote diversity, and recruit participants—including healthy controls.

In return, we offer advocacy groups access to our patient empowerment app, opportunities for community-driven research participation, and customizable tools to launch your own research projects. Together, we’re making research more accessible, inclusive, and patient-centered.

Why This Matters Right Now

The clinical research field is a difficult space for researchers, nonprofit organizations, and clinicians alike.

Funding is limited, philanthropic giving has sharply declined, and the economic environment can be unpredictable.

The administrative, regulatory, and financial burdens associated with conducting clinical research are substantial.

We need your help, join our supporters.
