This Brain Inflammation Collaborative webinar featured Dr. Leonard Jason, a renowned ME-CFS researcher and patient, presenting on pacing as an intervention for managing post-exertional malaise (PEM). Dr. Jason shared his pioneering research from the 1990s on the energy envelope theory. He presented multiple studies showing the effectiveness of pacing interventions, including case studies, as well as the digital pacing features in the unhide platform.
Anvita Guda from Brain Inflammation Collaborative explained how the unhide platform’s pacing notifications work using wearable device data to help patients monitor and manage their activity levels. The presenters discussed the importance of social support and community resources for patients with severe cases, emphasizing that pacing should be patient-driven and supported by appropriate environmental and clinical resources.
The webinar included a Q&A session in which participants asked about neuroinflammation treatments, compatibility with wearable devices, and the validity of self-reported PEM data.
