Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
Myalgic encephalomyelitis, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME/CFS, is a complex disease characterized by chronic fatigue that lasts at least six months. ME/CFS affects neurological, immunological, and metabolic functions. Symptoms do not improve with rest and worsen with even minimal physical or mental activity. Symptoms of ME/CFS include:
- Post-exertional fatigue
- Sleep problems
- Cognitive issues (problems with memory and thinking)
- Dizziness that worsens when standing upright
- Muscle or joint pain
- Orthostatic intolerance
- Sensory intolerance
- Flu-like symptoms
- Gastrointestinal symptoms
While the underlying cause of ME/CFS is unknown, many people with ME/CFS report symptoms that persist following an acute infection. There is no single diagnostic test to confirm ME/CFS; rather, a diagnosis depends on ruling out other conditions with similar symptoms. No FDA-approved treatment for ME/CFS is currently available and treatment approaches focus on symptom relief.
Did you know that brain inflammation can lead to mental health symptoms like depression, anxiety, and OCD? Unfortunately, misdiagnosis often delays proper care for patients experiencing these symptoms. We aim to shed light on the natural course of neuroinflammatory syndromes and the risk factors associated with them.
By participating in research, patients with neuroinflammatory syndromes can contribute valuable data to help researchers understand these conditions better. With close follow-up and clinical evaluations, we aim to gather real-world insights that can benefit patients and healthcare providers alike.
By connecting patient communities and sharing research insights, we can drive progress and improve outcomes for individuals with 30+ related diseases.
Together, we can uncover the truth behind these complex disorders and pave the way for better care and treatment options.
